Mon(t) Magic, Canillo's mountain family park up the gondola

When people ask me what to do in Andorra in summer with small children, Mon(t) Magic comes up in the first breath. Think of a high mountain meadow with a lake, a coaster and a zip line rather than a theme park, and you reach it by gondola. For a six-year-old, the ride up is half the fun.

Where it is and how you get up

Mon(t) Magic sits inside the Grandvalira ski area, in the Canillo sector around El Forn. There’s no road. You go up on the gondola from the centre of Canillo, in the same building as the Motorcycle Museum. At the top a small lake fills the middle of the site, with the activities spread round it.

That’s a real plus if you’re on a package without a hire car. There’s no parking to hunt for on a mountain and no hairpins with a queasy child in the back. Stay in the village and you simply walk to the gondola. Up top there’s a restaurant, El Forn, a snack bar doing pizzas and hot rolls, and a café in the middle of the park.

What there is to do, by age

For the youngest, aged 3 to 5, there are balance bikes on a little circuit. Up to 13, bouncy castles and outdoor play areas. Trampolines, acrojump and pedal cars all have height limits, so check Grandvalira’s chart before you promise anything. Crazy golf, archery (from age 6) and canoes, kayaks and pedal boats on the lake fill the rest of the day.

Older children and adults have the Adrenalina Pass, for 12 and over, with the Màgic Gliss, the zip line, the Big AirBag, QuickFlight (a free-fall jump from 7 m), the Red Shark water bike and a mountain bike loop. Everyone can do the two gentle trails, Fornatura, with daily guided walks, and the Legends Path, with panels in several languages.

How much does a day at Mon(t) Magic cost?

In summer 2026 the Únic Pass was €41 per person from age 3, or €30 from 14:00. It covers the open lifts in the sector and nearly everything in the park. The Adrenalina Pass, for 12 and over, was €62 (€43.50 in the afternoon). Insurance isn’t included and costs €6 a day at the ticket office. Worth remembering that your GHIC isn’t valid in Andorra.

What you pay on top of the Únic Pass is the zip line, €20 seated, €26 lying flat or €36 in tandem, and three extra Màgic Gliss runs at €17.50. My advice for a family of four is to hold off on extras until you’re up there. The park fills a day on its own, and the bill climbs fast.

The zip line and the Màgic Gliss

The zip line runs 550 m from the Planells del Forn down to the Forn lake, up to 40 m off the ground and at 80 km/h. There are three ways down, sitting, lying flat like Superman or as a pair, an adult plus a child weighing 20 to 35 kg. Grandvalira can’t decide whether it’s the first or second longest in the Pyrenees, so I’ll stick with the 550 m, which is what counts. The Màgic Gliss is a rail-mounted coaster with a 555 m descent and 180 m climb, at over 40 km/h in two-seater cars. Children aged 3 to 8 ride with an adult. The virtual reality version, from age 8, was listed as temporarily unavailable when I checked.

And in winter?

In winter this part of Grandvalira is mostly a gentle learning zone with easy runs and a theme drawn from Andorran legends, tamarros, elves and fairies included. Grandvalira’s 2026-27 winter kicks off on 4 December, with the last day pencilled in for 4 April. The zip line keeps going too, from €21 seated, but you need a skier’s or pedestrian lift pass. To round off the day without leaving the village, there’s the Palau de Gel ice rink, with skating and a pool (with some facilities shut for works, so ask first), and the Roc del Quer viewpoint a few minutes’ drive up the Montaup road.
