Roc del Quer viewpoint, a glass-floored walkway over Canillo

Some viewpoints make you earn them with a two-hour climb. The Roc del Quer isn’t one of those, which is exactly why I rate it for anyone on a short trip. You park, walk a few steps and you’re hanging over the Canillo valley with glass under your boots.

What the Roc del Quer actually is

The Roc del Quer is the great wall of rock that looms over the entrance to Canillo as you drive up from Escaldes-Engordany. On top of it the parish council built a walkway 20 m long. The first 8 m rest on the rock and the remaining 12 m are cantilevered out with nothing beneath, much of the floor clear glass. The official site talks of a 500 m drop.

At the far end sits a sculpture of a seated thinker, back turned, looking out over the mountains. It’s the touch that turns a steel platform into somewhere with a bit of character, and it’s why almost every photo from here has that figure in the foreground.

Below you is the village of Canillo, the Valira d’Orient river and, straight ahead, the slopes that carry the Grandvalira pistes. Grandvalira dates the opening to 2016, so this is a recent attraction, designed from the start to be easy for lots of people to visit.

Driving up and parking

Plenty of visitors trip up on this. There is an official bus from Canillo, but only for people who’ve bought the bridge or the combo ticket. For the viewpoint on its own, you drive yourself up the Montaup road to km 6.5. Just before that, on the left, there’s a wide parking area, and the walkway is a few steps from there.

I wouldn’t plan on walking up the tarmac, as the official site doesn’t suggest any footpath to the platform. If you’re relying on buses from your hotel, the sensible answer is the combo with the Canillo Tibetan bridge, which includes the transfer and a stop at the viewpoint.

Prices and opening hours

An adult ticket is €6, bought at the viewpoint itself. Children up to 12, Carnet Jove holders and Andorra residents pay €4, and under-5s go free. For half an hour with one of the widest views in the valley, I think that’s fair value.

Hours changed on 28 September 2026. It now opens 9:30 to 18:00 Monday to Friday and 9:30 to 19:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. Winter times hadn’t been published when I checked, so if there’s snow about I’d ring Canillo tourist office first, as they handle the tickets.

Viewpoint, bridge, or both

The combo with the Tibetan bridge costs €20 (€22 from 18 July to 13 September), or €17 (€19) for children up to 12. It covers the bus from Canillo to the bridge, the crossing, the transfer to the viewpoint, entry and the ride back to the village. If you want both, it’s plainly the one to buy, because you save €3 and, more to the point, you don’t have to drive.

If you can only pick one, it depends who’s with you. With small children or older relatives, the viewpoint, which involves no real walking. With good legs and an appetite for something bigger, the bridge, 603 m slung across the Vall del Riu with a 900 m walk to reach it.

When I’d go

Light matters here more than at most viewpoints. The walkway looks out over the Canillo valley towards the Grandvalira slopes, and on a clear autumn weekday, with the new closing time of 18:00, I’d go mid-morning, when the car park is quiet and the valley is lit. At weekends the extra hour until 19:00 gives you a later option. In summer, if you’ve bought the combo, the bus schedule sets the timing for you.

The rock face from below

The same cliff is a playground for climbers and via ferrata fans. Its via ferrata climbs the centre of the face, half a kilometre long with 350 m of height gain, airy and with no way off halfway. To round off the morning I’d head down to see Sant Serni church in Canillo, which is quite literally built against this same rock. And if the weather holds, carry on up the valley to the Incles valley, between El Tarter and Soldeu, for a gentle stroll on the flat Obac path.
