Andorra-La Seu airport, what's there and what isn't

“Andorra airport” has a short answer and a useful one. The short answer is that Andorra doesn’t have one. The useful one is that there’s an airfield twenty minutes from the border, in Spain, which could be the easiest way into the country and currently has no confirmed scheduled flights. Here’s what it is, where it is, and what I’d do in the meantime.

An Andorra airport that isn’t in Andorra

Andorra-La Seu d’Urgell Airport, code LEU, is in Montferrer, in the province of Lleida, and is run by the Catalan government. According to its own website it’s 7.8 km from La Seu d’Urgell, about 10 minutes, and 17.4 km from the Andorran border, about 20 minutes.

Andorra Turisme describes it as a high mountain airfield equipped to operate at any time of year, and calls it the quickest way to reach the country. On paper it is. Landing twenty minutes from the border is a different world from three and a half hours on a coach from Toulouse or Barcelona.

So which flights does it have?

That’s the problem. According to the site’s own API, its page on scheduled services hasn’t been touched since 11 October 2024, and it says nothing about 2026-27. I won’t give you routes, airlines or days, because quoting them from information two winters old wouldn’t be honest. And there’s nothing to suggest a UK route.

What the website does show is business and private aviation, with an FBO run by Andorra Aviation Group and hangar space for companies. If you’re flying privately, this is your airport. If not, wait until dated flights appear, from the airport or an airline, before planning anything around it.

Getting from the airport into Andorra

Andorra Turisme describes a coach with several stops between Andorra la Vella bus station and the Spanish border, with departures and arrivals timed to commercial flights and a journey of about an hour. Andorra’s national bus station links to the operator, Andbus, for that route. With no confirmed flights, there’s no timetable I can give you. Whatever is running at any given time will show up at Andorra la Vella bus station.

By car or taxi, it’s the 17.4 km up the N-145, the only road in from Spain. Over the border, the first parish you reach is Sant Julià de Lòria.

Paperwork if you do land here

Because the airport is in Spain, you land inside the Schengen area and cross the Andorran border afterwards by road. The crossing is open 24 hours for travellers, but it’s a real border, so keep your passport on you rather than in checked luggage. British travellers have to satisfy the Schengen rules on passport age and validity, as the Foreign Office explains. Medical cover is the other thing to sort before you fly, whichever airport you use, because neither card, GHIC or EHIC, works in Andorra. The airport you’re probably looking for

Most British visitors searching for an Andorra airport really want to know where to fly. From the UK the answer is Toulouse-Blagnac, with non-stop flights from several British cities on its route map and an Andorra by Bus coach from arrivals four times a day for €36. Barcelona-El Prat is the other choice, with two coach operators and fares from €33.

What I’d do

Fly to Toulouse or Barcelona, whichever has the better fare and times from your local airport, and take the direct coach. I’d glance at the La Seu website before each trip in case a new season appears, because the day it has scheduled flights with dates, it’ll change the journey for anyone coming from further afield. Until then, it’s an airport for private flyers and a good piece of trivia.
