Luxury and five-star hotels in Andorra

Andorra isn’t Monaco, but it does do luxury, and it’s not where first-time visitors expect. It lives in the ski villages at the top of the valley and in the thermal quarter of Escaldes, not on the perfume-shop high street. Here’s where official sources place it and how I’d spend the money, with one warning up front. There is no readable public register of the country’s five-star hotels, so I’m not giving you a number or a made-up list.

Where the five-stars are

Two areas are named outright. The first is Soldeu. Grandvalira describes it as the sector in the middle of the ski area, with a wide, high-quality choice of hotels, four and five-stars included, right at the foot of the slopes. It’s home to the Avet run, which hosts the women’s World Cup on 6 and 7 March 2027.

The second is Escaldes-Engordany. Andorra Turisme markets it as the parish of four and five-star hotels, with the Madriu valley, the country’s UNESCO site, right behind. Luxury here is urban, with Caldea, boutiques and restaurants, and the peaks in view. Each area has its own guide, hotels in Soldeu and hotels in Escaldes-Engordany.

Names you’ll see in the official sources

I won’t put stars on hotels where I haven’t read them, but I can tell you which names come up when official sites talk about the top end. When Grandvalira talks about the hotels carrying its label, it names two. One is Soldeu’s Sport Hotel Hermitage & Spa; the other, inside the Grau Roig ski area, is the Grau Roig Andorra Boutique Hotel & Spa. Andorra Turisme describes the Hotel Roc Blanc as an exceptional stay for luxury tourism, complete with thermal pool. And La Massana’s tourism site includes the Princesa Parc Excellence, which bills itself as five-star.

If you’re used to catered chalets in the Alps, note that every official source I read talks about the top end in terms of hotels. So the real choice is which hotel sits nearest the lift.

What does luxury add in tax?

Not much, but it’s worth knowing. A five-star charges the top band, €3 a night per guest from 16 upwards. Only the first seven nights count, and 4.5% IGI goes on top. A couple on a week’s holiday pays €42 before IGI, against €28 in a four-star, which is a footnote rather than a reason to trade down. The detail is in the Andorra tourist tax page.

If you’d rather have the resort sort out the booking, Grandvalira’s own hotel and pass packages start from €239 for three nights in a four-star with the lift pass, on the opening weekend of 3 to 6 December 2026. The site isn’t consistent about whether that’s per person or per person per night, so check the total before you pay. Grandvalira also warns that these prices are updated every week.

The splurge I’d actually make

If I had to pick one luxury experience in Andorra, it wouldn’t be a suite. It would be a night out in the snow. At Grau Roig, Grandvalira rents the Domo Coma III, a geodesic dome 2,500 metres up for 2 to 4 people, with a kitchen, heating, wifi and a shower, plus a welcome aperitif, dinner and breakfast served on site. There are anniversary and romantic add-ons for a supplement. The nearby Cabana Piolet is more rustic, with the shower and loo outside, and takes two adults and two children.

Andorra Turisme calls them the Cabanes de Grandvalira by Serras Collection, and to me it’s the kind of night you still talk about years later. If you’re travelling as a couple, I go into it properly in Andorra for couples.

Winter luxury, summer luxury

In winter, the luxury that pays off is location. A top hotel by the lifts in Soldeu spares you the car, the parking and the first gondola queue. The resort also has serious food, since Michelin-starred chef Nandu Jubany has joined the kitchen at the Vodka Bar, according to Grandvalira.

In summer, luxury moves down to Escaldes and across to Ordino. Escaldes has Caldea and Inúu, the adults-only thermal area, on the doorstep. Ordino, which Andorra Turisme markets as the top category of comfort and natural beauty, has four four-star hotels on the parish list and the Sorteny valley behind them.
