Where to carry on after skiing in Andorra

Après-ski in Andorra isn’t a bar at the bottom of every lift, as it can be in the Alps. It’s fairly concentrated, and it’s worth knowing where before you choose a hotel, because ending the day in El Tarter, Arinsal or Pas de la Casa are three very different evenings. Here’s what each is like and who I think each one suits.

L’Abarset, the name everyone asks about

Ask about après-ski in Andorra and the answer is nearly always L’Abarset. It’s in the El Tarter car park, right by the slopes, and Grandvalira presents it as the leading après-ski venue in the Pyrenees, with electronic music sessions and internationally known DJs. It opens every day from 4pm. Sunday to Friday it closes at 9pm, and on Saturdays and promoter nights at 10pm. On selected Fridays and Saturdays the party continues as L’After, a club night indoors with limited capacity, until 2am.

There’s a VIP area for up to 170 people with bookable tables, a burger food truck, and an à la carte restaurant outside party hours. On guest DJ nights you pay to get in. Last winter published tickets ran from €10 to €32 depending on the date. The 2026-27 line-up hasn’t been released, so I can’t give you names or prices yet.

My practical advice is the usual mountain rule. If you’re drinking, don’t drive. The UK Foreign Office points out that Andorra’s drink-driving fines go up to €600 with a two-month ban, and your car can be impounded. Stay in El Tarter and you won’t need the car at all.

Arinsal, the lively village

At Pal Arinsal the après-ski isn’t on the mountain but down in Arinsal village. The resort’s website talks of music bars and restaurants, and La Massana’s parish council goes further, calling Arinsal the liveliest village in the country. It makes sense, because the gondola leaves from the village and you finish skiing a short walk from the bar. For a group of friends who don’t mind a smaller ski area than Grandvalira, it’s a good bet. More on the village in my Arinsal guide.

Pas de la Casa, a few more runs

Pas de la Casa plays a different card. Grandvalira includes the floodlit Tubs run in its après-ski offer, still open with the La Solana chairlift after 5pm, and the village is one of the country’s shopping areas, with late shopping until 9pm at the end of the week and 8pm on other days. In March 2026 it also hosted the seventh Hibernation Festival, from the 20th to the 22nd. The 2027 edition has no date yet. Mountain dinners, the quiet après-ski

For me, the best way to stretch the day has no DJ. Grandvalira’s restaurants stay open after closing for mountain dinners, some combined with a snowmobile ride or a lift up in a piste basher. They include Roc de les Bruixes in Canillo, l’Arrosseria Pi de Migdia and La Trattoria in El Tarter, the Vodka Bar with chef Nandu Jubany, and the Wine & Meat Bar by Jean Leon.

At Pal Arinsal, the Coll de la Botella restaurant, at 2,069 metres, pairs dinner with stargazing in winter, and you can drive to the door. The Pla de la Cot restaurant, by contrast, can only be reached on skis, snowshoes or by piste basher, which is half the fun. The same parish is home to the Comapedrosa Starlight reserve, a certification that protects the night sky for stargazing.

Choosing a base with après in mind

If I were picking where to stay with the evenings in mind, I’d weigh it like this. For a big group that wants music, El Tarter or neighbouring Soldeu, with L’Abarset on the doorstep and ski-in hotels in Soldeu. For a week where the bars matter as much as the pistes, Arinsal. For shopping by day and a floodlit run before dinner, Pas de la Casa. And for a couple, anywhere at all, as long as one mountain dinner is booked before you land in Toulouse or Barcelona.

What if you just want to rest?

After a day on the slopes, what I’d do is head down to Escaldes-Engordany and soak in the thermal water at Caldea.
