Andorra in February, great snow and busy slopes

February is when the snow and the crowds turn up together. It follows the snowiest weeks of the winter, it doesn’t yet have March’s light, and for a lot of British families it’s half-term, the one week they can go. The resorts know it, and their pricing says so. Here’s my plan for enjoying it without overpaying or spending the morning in a lift queue.

February on the thermometer

In February the valley floor averages a normal 4.1°C (39°F), going by meteo.ad’s monthly summaries, a degree warmer than January and well below March (6.8°C). The real difference is the light. Days get longer through the month and by late February you’re skiing in sunshine for noticeably longer. Above 2,000 metres, where the pistes are, it’s still full winter.

The tourist board ends its heaviest-snowfall period in February, which starts in December. To me that’s the month’s great strength, because you arrive on top of a whole winter’s snow instead of relying on the last storm.

Proof that it’s peak season

If anyone doubts February is peak season, look at the lift pass small print. Grandvalira suspends the 4% reduction it gives large groups between 30 January and 28 February 2027, and Ordino Arcalís and Pal Arinsal drop it from 7 and 8 February. No resort gives up discounts unless demand is spare. Every opening and closing date is listed in Andorra ski season.

My approach is to do everything early. Book the accommodation well ahead, buy passes online, which can be up to 15% cheaper than at the ticket office, and stay in a ski village such as El Tarter, Soldeu or Arinsal so the car stays put. Carnival, the month’s only holiday

Carnival Monday was one of the 14 public holidays in Andorra’s 2026 working calendar, falling on 16 February. Even so, shops trade as normal that day. No 2027 carnival programme had appeared by September 2026, so watch Andorra carnival for it.

There’s a dish tied to the season too. It’s the conger escudella of Lent, which, according to the tourist board’s recipe, grew out of the dried and salted fish that pedlars from northern Spain once carried up into the valleys. If a menu has it, order it.

February for strong skiers

Facing north, Ordino Arcalís has been a Freeride World Tour stop since 2015, and between 1 and 6 February 2026 it put on the first-ever FIS Freeride World Championships. The next edition’s dates weren’t published by September 2026. When you need a day off the pistes

With the slopes at their busiest, I like to keep one afternoon for something else. Guided snowshoeing, dog sledding at Grau Roig or El Tarter, snowmobiles on the Envalira pass or the Màgic Gliss toboggan in Canillo all work, and they’re gathered in snow activities in Andorra. Naturland’s upper 2000 area runs every day, and the lower one with the Tobotronc opens on Saturdays and Sundays. And the shops never close in February.

Getting there in half-term

Andorra has no airport, which means most British skiers touch down in Toulouse or Barcelona and cover the final stretch by road. Coach operators’ own websites listed single fares of €36 from Toulouse and €33 from Barcelona’s airport in September 2026, and in February I’d rather let the driver deal with the road. If you do drive, the law requires winter kit until 15 May, and arriving from Toulouse means crossing the Envalira pass at 2,408 metres. Grandvalira’s own packages check in on a Friday and out on a Sunday, so I’d expect the roads up to Soldeu and Pas de la Casa to be slowest at weekends. February or March?

If your dates are free, I’d move to the first half of March, with more daylight, the winter’s snow still up high and a little more room on the pistes.
