Andorra in October, busy calendar and quiet hotels

October is when Andorra stops being a summer destination but isn’t a ski resort yet. That in-between spell has two things going for it as far as I’m concerned, hotels under less pressure and, in 2026, a busier calendar than plenty of peak-season months.

October weather in the valleys and above

October’s normal on the valley floor is 11.4 °C, worked out, like the other months, from the 1991-2020 reference in meteo.ad’s monthly climate bulletins. That’s nearly four degrees colder than September, and mornings start to bite. Autumn is one of Andorra’s wetter seasons, says Andorra Turisme, and first snow on the high peaks usually comes with November, though an early dusting in October is no surprise.

For walking I’d change approach. Routes above 1,700 m, which Andorra Turisme recommends until the end of September, now depend on the forecast. The mid-height valleys and lower woods, on the other hand, look their best as the colours turn. The Sorteny valley in Ordino or the meadows of Els Cortals above Encamp are good examples, with clear paths and stone barns, and you’re back at the car within a couple of hours.

A crowded October calendar

The Mercat de la Vall wraps up its season in the capital’s old streets on October’s first Saturday; from May to October it trades on that day of each month, 11am to 8pm, with local produce and crafts. The weekend of 9-11 October 2026 is the month’s big one. Escaldes-Engordany has those dates for the Andorra Trail, starting and finishing in the town centre with courses through the Madriu valley. Sant Julià de Lòria’s FesTac marks five years of street arts with circus, music and hot chocolate on the Sunday, according to the Comú. And Encamp launches Frikiing Days, a comic, cosplay and gaming fair with more than 60 stands, over 2,000 m² of activities, tournaments, a K-pop concert and a family area, according to Andorra Turisme. It’s the event’s first edition, so I’d treat it as an experiment rather than a fixture.

From 16 to 18 October the Hotel Sant Gothard in Erts hosts the Andorra Dance Festival, and on Saturday 17th the illusionist Jorge Luengo plays the congress centre in Andorra la Vella at 6pm. The Fira d’Andorra and the run-up to winter

The month’s big trade fair, the Fira d’Andorra, takes over the capital’s main park from Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th. Grandvalira uses it to sell season passes, and its stand in the Illa Carlemany shopping centre closes for those days. Naturland is the other sign that winter’s close. From 17 October to 22 November it opens at weekends on its 1600 level, 10am to 5pm. With children, that’s the Tobotronc and a mountain day without waiting for December; more in Naturland Andorra.

What says goodbye in October

October is also a month of closures. Activities in the Madriu valley end on 10 October and Pal Arinsal’s Bike Park opens for the last time on Monday 12th. The sculpture exhibition La revolución de la escultura runs until the 31st, and access to the Tristaina solar viewpoint stays open until 1 November. If Ordino Arcalís is on your list, don’t leave it for the final weekend. The Llorts iron mine nearby follows a similar pattern, opening only at weekends in October and closing on 1 November, so the two make a good pairing for a Saturday in the Ordino valley.

How I’d spend an October weekend

Coming for 9-11 October, I’d stay in Andorra la Vella and split the time. Friday evening, shopping along Avinguda Meritxell, open every day this month. Saturday, FesTac in Sant Julià in the morning and a walk up the Sorteny valley or round Engolasters lake in the afternoon. Sunday, Caldea if it rains or the Andorra Trail start if it’s fine.
