Family hotels in Andorra, chosen with the kids in mind

Children rewrite the hotel brief. Things that are nice extras for a couple, a pool, a gondola five minutes away, a snow nursery in the village, become the difference between a good week and a long one. Andorra does families well, and here’s how I’d choose, using the hotels the tourist board itself recommends for children and the childcare the resorts publish.

What Andorra Turisme recommends

The national tourist board has a whole page on family breaks and names specific hotels on it. The two it describes are the Grand Plaza Hotel & Wellness, in central Andorra la Vella, with themed rooms fully adapted for children, and the Hotel Nòrdic in El Tarter, right by the Grandvalira slopes, with a pool, a games room and childcare. It also lists, without describing them, Park Piolets, Sant Gothard, Princesa Parc, Anyós Park, Sporthotel Village and Ski Plaza.

That’s a promotional selection rather than an official award, and I’m presenting it as such. Still, it’s a sensible shortlist, since these are hotels the board itself sees as built with families in mind.

Winter, let the village decide

During the 2026-27 ski season (the lifts turn from 4 December 2026 to closing day on 4 April 2027), I’d look at the village before the hotel. Grandvalira describes Canillo’s slopes as ideal for families and beginners, with a gondola from the middle of the village and the Mon(t) Magic Family Park up top. It calls Soldeu ideal for families as well.

Childcare is what really decides it. Grandvalira runs snow nurseries in Canillo, El Tarter and Soldeu, from 24 months and 9:30 to 16:30, and a crèche for 1 to 3-year-olds only at Grau Roig. Encamp, Pas de la Casa and Peretol have no crèche. Kids’ trails on the slopes are free up to age 12. If your little one doesn’t ski yet, a village without a nursery means a drive every morning. What about Pal Arinsal?

Andorra’s other big resort describes itself as the country’s most family-friendly option, and I’ll quote it on that. To stay nearby, La Massana and Arinsal have two places the parish council describes clearly. Princesa Parc, in the Arinsal valley, calls itself a full holiday club with a spa, mountain guides and a bowling alley. Anyós Park, in Anyós, is a resort with rooms, studios and flats, a large spa and a sports club.

Half-term or the Easter holidays?

For British families the school calendar sets the dates, so it’s worth knowing when the deals fall. Grandvalira says December to March is when demand peaks, which is exactly when February half-term lands. Its Kids Free offer gives one free child pass for ages 6 to 11 for every adult booking accommodation and passes online, but only from 4 to 23 December 2026 (minimum three days) and from 15 March to 4 April 2027 (minimum four). If your Easter break starts before the 4 April close, that second window is worth a look.

Summer, town or valley

In July and August the sums change. Without snow you want the kids’ activities nearby, and they’re spread around the country, from Naturland’s Tobotronc toboggan to the tamarros, little forest guardians hidden across the parishes. Without a car, the capital is my pick, as the Grand Plaza is central and every national bus line starts in Andorra la Vella. With a car, Canillo keeps Mon(t) Magic on the doorstep. What you save as a family

The tourist tax only applies from age 16, so children don’t pay it. A family of four with two young kids in a four-star pays €4 a night in tax, for the adults only, plus IGI.

And for one night the children will remember longer than any hotel, Grandvalira rents the Cabana Piolet at Grau Roig, a rustic cabin for two adults and two children with dinner and breakfast served inside. The shower and loo are in a separate outdoor space, so I’d save it for kids who find that an adventure rather than a hardship.
