Short and nearly flat
Easy walks in Andorra that skip the hard climbing
Andorra's easy walks run from the 800 m Toll Bullidor path to the 6 km old road in Ordino, with hardly any ascent. My favourites are the Camí de les Pardines to Engolasters lake, the Obac path in the Incles valley and the first Pessons lake, which puts you beside a high glacial lake after just 1.5 km.

- Andorra's easy walks measure 800 m to 6 km and have very little ascent.
- The first Pessons lake puts a glacial lake 1.5 km from the car park.
- The Camí de les Pardines is the flattest and ends at Engolasters lake.
- The Ordino old road is walked one way with the bus back.
In Andorra an easy walk doesn't mean a low one. I'd go for the ones that start high, like Pessons or Tristaina, because for very little effort they give you proper high-mountain scenery.

What I would keep in mind
-
01 Most beautiful
A glacial lake with almost no climb
From the Cubil car park at Grau Roig, the first Pessons lake is 1.5 km away through the woods, with 200 m up and down and a restaurant on the far shore.
Pessons lakes -
02 Getting there
Walk out, bus back
The old road from Ordino to Llorts is 6 km of near-flat riverside path, and Andorra Turisme suggests coming back on the parish bus. No car, no retracing your steps.
Llorts -
03 My tip
Shade for July, sun for October
Two irrigation-channel paths run above the capital. The Rec del Obac stays in the shade and suits spring and summer; the Rec del Solà gets sun all day and is a treat out of season.
-
04 To save money
None of them costs a penny
There's no charge for any of these walks. The only things you might pay for in season are the electric train up the Incles valley and pay-and-display parking.

My ranking, scored
The five easy walks I'd do first
My own score out of 10. It rewards what a walk gives you for very little effort, above all mountain scenery, and whether you can do it without a car or with simple access.

Obac path, Incles valley
A U-shaped glacial valley, stone barns and meadows in 2.6 km of low-difficulty walking. In summer the valley closes to cars and an electric train runs up it.

Camí de les Pardines
The flattest walk in the country, past small Pyrenean plant gardens, a tunnel and a waterfall, ending at Engolasters lake.

Ordino old road to Llorts
Six kilometres beside the Valira del Nord, village to village, with the parish bus back. Perfect for an unhurried afternoon.

Canillo to Meritxell
Forty minutes along the pilgrims' path, past the Creu dels Set Braços, with the sanctuary as your reward.
7.8 out of 10
An easy walk in Andorra isn’t a stroll round the park. Nearly the whole country sits above 1,000 m, the paths are earth and rock, and anything marked easy on a route sheet is still mountain country. Even so, there’s a good collection of short, nearly flat routes with very little climbing that show you valleys, lakes and villages without an alpine start.
Start high and let the car do the climbing
My first suggestion is the walks that begin above 2,000 m, because the drive saves you the slog. Leave the car at the Cubil, Grau Roig’s car park, and the first Pessons lake is 1.5 km away through woodland with no technical difficulty and 200 m of ascent and descent. The cirque opens up in front of you when you arrive, and if you fancy carrying on, the rest are in Pessons lakes.
At Pas de la Casa, the Abelletes path leaves from the foot of the Coll dels Isards chairlift and reaches, in 808 m, a lake split between Andorra and France. At Ordino Arcalís, you reach the first of the three Tristaina lakes in roughly 40 minutes from the car park, though the full circuit is graded moderate.
Valley walks beside the water
If you’d rather not climb at all, the valleys have old, nearly flat tracks. The best known is the Camí de les Pardines, a very wide path from the Pardines barn in Encamp past small gardens of Pyrenean plants, a tunnel, a bridge and a waterfall, finishing after just over 3 km at Engolasters lake.
In Ordino, the old road from Santa Bàrbara to Llorts is 6 km with only 100 m of height change, following the river from village to village. Andorra Turisme recommends it for families and suggests taking the parish bus back. Right after it, the gentlest section of the Iron Route begins, 4.24 km and an hour of gentle descent among iron sculptures. In La Massana, the Camí Real runs flat from the Prat del Molí car park to the Sant Antoni de la Grella bridge.
Are there easy walks near Andorra la Vella?
More than you’d expect. Two irrigation-channel paths run above Andorra la Vella and Escaldes, the Rec del Obac, about 2 km in the shade and best in spring and summer, and the Rec del Solà, sunny all year. Both have springs, benches and views over the two parishes. I’d walk one late in the afternoon, once the shops start closing.
Two more start from the Pouader car park beside Caldea in Escaldes. The Tomb de Sant Romà dels Vilars loops for 960 m among allotments and barns, and the Rumb als Vilars stretches to 3.5 km via Sant Jaume and Els Vilars. The Engordany route, from the Plaça de Santa Anna, is almost urban and uses information panels to tell the story of early 20th-century Andorra.
Canillo, a glacial valley and a sanctuary
Canillo has two that I rate among the best in the country for their grade. The Obac path in the Incles valley is 2.6 km of low-difficulty walking through a U-shaped valley of barns and meadows. Between mid-June and early September it’s shut to traffic and a small electric train does the work, so park before the barrier.
The other is the pilgrims’ path from Canillo to Meritxell, about 4 km and 40 minutes with only 50 m of climbing, from the Santa Creu chapel to Meritxell Sanctuary, passing the Creu dels Set Braços. Close by, the Toll Bullidor is the shortest of the lot, just over 800 m to a spiral staircase that looks out over a waterfall.
What I’d bear in mind
Easy doesn’t mean unprepared. Andorra Turisme insists on proper footwear even on the shortest trails, and I’d add a jacket, because at 2,000 m the weather turns quickly even in August. The high starts are for late June to late September; in winter they’re under snow and inside the ski areas.
For a first visit, I’d pair a valley walk and a lake walk on the same day. In the morning, Pessons or Incles, before the cloud builds, and in the afternoon, the Pardines or the Ordino old road, done in the low light without watching the clock. And since your GHIC isn’t valid here, pack the travel insurance documents along with the sun cream.

Frequently asked questions
Are there easy walks in Andorra?
Plenty. The Camí de les Pardines, the Obac path in Incles, the first Pessons lake, the old road from Ordino to Llorts, the Canillo to Meritxell path and the two channel paths above the capital all run between 800 m and 6 km with very little climbing.
What's the easiest lake walk in Andorra?
For access, Engolasters, which you can drive to. For a proper high lake, the first Pessons lake, 1.5 km from the Cubil car park at Grau Roig. The first of the three Tristaina lakes is about 40 minutes from its car park.
Are there riverside walks in Andorra?
Yes. The old road in Ordino follows the Valira del Nord to Llorts, and La Massana's Camí Real runs flat from the Prat del Molí to the Sant Antoni de la Grella bridge.
Can I do easy walks in Andorra without a car?
Several. The Rec del Obac and Rec del Solà start from the capital itself, the Engordany route starts in the Plaça de Santa Anna in Escaldes, and the Ordino old road pairs neatly with the parish bus.
Can you do these walks in winter?
The valley ones, yes, such as the Rec del Solà or the Ordino old road. The ones starting above 2,000 m, like Pessons, are under snow and inside the ski areas.
What footwear do I need for easy walks in Andorra?
Walking shoes or light boots with a decent grip. The routes are easy, but they're on earth and rock, and Andorra Turisme stresses proper footwear even on the shortest trails.
