Parking in Andorra without overpaying

Parking in Andorra is easy enough to find but rarely free, and on a shopping weekend it can cost more than lunch. Each parish does it slightly differently, and skiers have a couple of perfectly legal ways to pay nothing at all. Here’s what the parish councils and Grandvalira publish, and where I’d leave the car depending on the plan.

Andorra la Vella, plenty of spaces at capital prices

The Andorra la Vella council says the parish has more than 5,000 parking spaces, with over 3,000 in its own 13 public car parks. Its website has a live map of free spaces, which I’d check before driving into the centre.

On the tariff published in 2025, the first 15 minutes cost €0.50, an hour €2, the night from 8pm to 8am €12 and 24 hours €24. Lose your ticket and it’s €24. For longer stays the car park machines sell passes of €55.70 for three days and €79.90 for a week, without a reserved bay. Vans and motorhomes over 1.80 m tall pay a separate rate of €3.10 an hour.

My approach is to park once and forget the car. The Shopping Mile, the old town and Avinguda Meritxell are all walkable, and driving between them just means paying for more time. What’s worth seeing in the capital is in Andorra la Vella.

Sant Julià, the first hour on the house

If you drive up from Spain, Sant Julià is the first parish and the kindest to drivers. The council doesn’t charge for the first hour at its open-air car parks, Camp Gran and Feixes del Rabató, which then cost €1.40 an hour, with the whole night for €1.40. The covered ones at Plaça de la Germandat and Camp de Perot are €2.05 an hour, with a visitor rate of €26.55 a day or €54.10 a week.

On-street blue-zone bays cost €1.85 an hour and green-zone bays €0.85, from 9am to 1pm and 3pm to 8pm, with 40 meters covering around 400 spaces. For a quick stop at the shopping centres near the border, it’s the cheapest option I can source.

Where should you park to ski?

This is the biggest saving. Grandvalira explains that if you ski from the Encamp sector you can leave the car free in one of four council car parks in the village centre, from 8:00 to 23:59, and ride the Funibus, every 20 minutes from 8:30 to 18:00, to the Funicamp. You validate it by showing your day pass and parking ticket to the driver or at the tourist office opposite the Funicamp.

At the pay car parks in Canillo, El Tarter and Soldeu, an Andorra Pass (adult or senior) that you’ve skied on that day earns 50% off. Take a ticket on entry and scan the pass’s QR code at the exit machine. Grandvalira adds that there are free and paid car parks at the slopes depending on the sector, and 50 electric car chargers. Summer is different. Resort car parks become paid, run by each parish council, with no discount for a lift or park ticket.

Motorhomes and camper vans

Sant Julià has dedicated motorhome bays at Feixes del Rabató, on the La Rabassa road, with drinking water and waste disposal included, the first hour free and €0.60 an hour after that. There are 4 bays all year and 6 more from May to October. In summer, Pal Arinsal opens a 60-space overnight area at the entrance to La Caubella car park from 20 June to 12 September. Blue zones and short stops

In Sant Julià, street parking is split into blue and green zones, charged from 9am to 1pm and 3pm to 8pm at €1.85 and €0.85 an hour respectively, with monthly and quarterly passes aimed at residents and students. For anything longer than a quick errand, I’d go straight to a council car park, where the price per hour is similar and there’s no meter to feed.

What I couldn’t confirm

I haven’t found official published tariffs for car parks in Escaldes-Engordany, Pas de la Casa, La Massana or Ordino, so I won’t quote figures.
