Ski lessons in Andorra, school by school

Learning to ski in Andorra is easy to arrange, because all three resorts run their own schools and publish their prices. The tricky part is choosing between group and private lessons, understanding which lift pass you need and not paying over the odds by booking in the wrong resort. Here are the 2026-27 prices and how I’d approach it, with the English-language question British families always ask.

Who runs the lessons

Grandvalira runs six centres, split between the Ski & Mountain Academy, at Encamp, Peretol, Grau Roig and Pas de la Casa, and the ski and snowboard school at Canillo, El Tarter and Soldeu. The resort points to more than 50 years of experience among its instructors. Pal Arinsal has two schools, one at Pal and one at Arinsal, with qualified, multilingual instructors. Ordino Arcalís has its ski and snowboard school and a dedicated freeride school. All three teach skiing and snowboarding at every level.

Group or private?

Group lessons put skiers of the same level and age together for three hours a day, over three to five days. For adults and juniors from 12 they cost from €159 at Grandvalira and from €147 at Pal Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís. For children aged 6 to 11, from €145 and €133. There’s a weekend version, Saturday and Sunday, from €107 at Grandvalira and €98.50 at Pal Arinsal.

Private lessons are tailored to you and let you choose the time. At Grandvalira they cost from €130.50 for two hours, €195.75 for three and €271.50 for four. At Pal Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís, €115, €173 and €240. Each extra person adds €8, €12 or €16 depending on length, up to six per instructor, and Grandvalira advises keeping them to a similar age and level.

For beginners, group lessons strike me as the best value. Privates pay off in three cases, when you need a particular language, when several of you share a level and the cost per head falls, or when a child freezes in a group.

The English-language question

This is the one I’d plan around. Group lessons are taught in different languages where possible, but Grandvalira says plainly that the only way to guarantee an instructor in your language is to book a private lesson. Pal Arinsal describes its instructors as multilingual and lets you choose the language of a private lesson, subject to availability. For a nervous adult or a small child, I’d book at least the first session privately.

If you’ve never skied

Grandvalira and Pal Arinsal both offer a one-day beginners’ group lesson of three hours, from age 6, from €60 and €59. At Grandvalira it’s only at Soldeu and El Tarter, any day of the week, and not for snowboarding. I’d use it as a taster and, if it clicks, move on to a three to five-day course. Before you book

All three schools require a multi-day pass or the Andorra Pass, and Pal Arinsal also accepts the Forfait Plus+. Foot passenger, beginner and Mountain Pass tickets aren’t accepted, and lessons include neither the pass nor hire. Both are covered in the Andorra ski pass and ski hire in Andorra.

Arrive 30 minutes before your confirmed time, or before 10am if it isn’t confirmed, and be aware that the school can change the instructor and group. At Ordino Arcalís, private lessons must be booked ahead and cancelled at least 48 hours in advance. Grandvalira’s three to five-day courses start on Mondays, and also on Saturdays at Soldeu and El Tarter, with a special 27 December start over Christmas.

Specialist and premium lessons

Once you can get down a blue, Grandvalira runs freeride and freestyle lessons from €130.50 and ski-touring with qualified mountain guides from €189. For off-piste, the benchmark is Ordino Arcalís and its freeride school. And as a treat, Grandvalira’s Top Class costs from €333 for a half day and €501 for a full day, with a private changing room, lounge, test skis and video analysis. My take

If budget matters, Pal Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís charge about €12 less for group lessons and €15 less for a two-hour private, and you don’t need Grandvalira’s 215 km to learn. If your package already puts you in Soldeu or El Tarter, book there and don’t waste the morning on the road. Either way, book on the resort’s own website, where times and language are confirmed.
