Andorra in June, when the mountains open up

June is when Andorra’s high mountains open up. Early in the month there’s still snow on the peaks, and by the end you can walk up to the lakes. In between come the sales, the summer parks and the most spectacular night of the Andorran festival year. Here’s how I’d split the month.

June’s temperature

June jumps to a 16.5°C (62°F) normal mean on the valley floor, based on meteo.ad’s data. That’s four degrees up on May and three below July, the warmest month. The tourist board places the start of the warm season in June, running to September, and notes that summer is wetter than winter, so a light waterproof in the daypack earns its place.

First half, down in the valley

The tourist board reckons the peaks hold their snow into early June, and it only advises walking above 1,700 metres once the month is nearly over. So I’d spend the first fortnight in the valley and at mid-height. On the first Saturday of the month Encamp makes its offering at the Virgin of Ecology, a small tiled shrine beside the les Pardines path near Engolasters lake. It’s a flat, lovely walk on any day of the month.

National museums move to their mid-season hours in June. Places like Casa de la Vall now open on Sunday mornings and stay open until 20:00 on Saturdays.

Second half, summer kicks off

From mid-month everything starts up. From mid-June until early September, cars are kept out of the Incles valley and a small electric train carries visitors to its head, with tickets sold at the car park hut, as explained in Incles valley. Sant Joan de Caselles church in Canillo opens for visits from 15 June to 15 September.

In 2026 Mont Magic in Canillo and the Pal Arinsal Bike Park opened on 20 June, and Naturland started its summer season on the 27th. Nothing had been announced for 2027 by September 2026, but the second half of June is the pattern. What each park offers is in Mont Magic family park.

And the sales. In 2026 they ran from 19 June to 30 August, and the tourist board points out that Andorra’s sales start before those of its neighbours.

The night of the 23rd

June’s big date is Midsummer’s Eve. On the night of 23 June the fire wheels burn in six parishes, Canillo, Encamp, Escaldes-Engordany, Sant Julià de Lòria, La Massana and Andorra la Vella, while Ordino waits for Sant Pere’s night, the 28th. The fallaires spin burning logs until they become wheels of fire, a custom revived in 1987 that UNESCO lists as intangible heritage together with the other Pyrenean solstice fire festivals. There’s more in Andorra fire festival. It all happens after dark, so bring a jacket, as nights in valleys over 1,000 metres high cool down quickly even in June.

A practical note. 24 June isn’t one of the 14 national holidays in the 2026 calendar, though each Comú can set up to four holidays of its own. And around the 29th, Sant Pere’s day, it’s Pas de la Casa’s festa major.

June is also stargazing month in La Massana. The tourist board places the Andorra Comapedrosa Astronomy Festival in Arinsal in June, part of the parish’s Starlight destination, though no 2027 date had been published. The natural park and the country’s highest peak are covered in Comapedrosa. In Ordino, the Llorts iron mine opened its 2026 season on 16 June, booking required, and the staffed Borda de Sorteny mountain hut switched to its summer rates on 1 June.

Pack for two climates. Short sleeves at midday in the valley; a fleece and a waterproof at 2,000 metres, as summer storms build in the mountains and the Andorran police advise checking the forecast before setting out. Getting there is by air to Toulouse or Barcelona and then coach or hire car, since Andorra itself has no airport.

How I’d do it

If I could choose, I’d go in the last week of June. The valley at its greenest, the parks just open, the first high-mountain routes, the sales, the fire wheels on the 23rd and none of July’s crowds yet.
