Bordes d'Envalira, the last stop before the pass

Drive up Canillo’s main road towards France, carry on past Soldeu, and the valley narrows around a cluster of buildings called Bordes d’Envalira. It’s the last settlement before the pass and, since Grandvalira opened its Peretol sector here, a way onto the slopes as well. Here’s what you’ll find and who it suits.

Where Bordes d’Envalira sits

The Comú de Canillo names it among the parish’s settlements, with Canillo, Soldeu, El Tarter and Ransol. It lies on the CG-2, across the Valira d’Orient from the Moretó forest, according to Andorra Turisme, and a couple of kilometres above Soldeu, Andorra’s ski village. The road carries on to the tunnel and the Envalira pass, the way out to France. For its October 2026 residents’ meeting, the Comú calls people from here to the Bordes de Peretol.

Peretol, the ski sector on the doorstep

Peretol is Grandvalira’s newest sector, added in the 2019-20 season, and it starts at 1,960 m. From here the Pla de les Pedres chairlift, which the resort calls the longest in Andorra, takes you up to Solanelles at 2,500 m and links you into the rest of the ski area. The car park is small, but Grandvalira runs free transport for guests staying in Bordes d’Envalira.

Its own draw is the Sunset Park Peretol, a snowpark open Tuesday to Sunday from 15:00 to 21:00 that the resort describes as the only night snowpark in the Pyrenees. The pass costs €26. Everything else about the resort is in Grandvalira.

Without skis

Snowshoeing is the obvious plan. Andorra Turisme recommends the track from Bordes d’Envalira to Soldeu, from the Peretol hotel to the edge of Soldeu, as a first outing. A longer loop covers 3 km with 200 m of ascent through the Moretó forest.

In summer, the date I’d look out for is the communal herd. At the end of August more than 250 Canillo cows head up towards La Portella through Bordes d’Envalira, and in 2026 that was on 31 August. If you’re driving on towards the pass, there’s a picnic area with tables, but no water or barbecue, at km 19-20 of the CG-2 before the tunnel.

Worth staying here?

For a ski week built around the slopes, yes, thanks to Peretol and the free transfers. For anything else I’d pick Soldeu or El Tarter, which have more going on in the evenings. How it fits into the wider parish is covered in Canillo, Andorra’s largest parish.
