The Ski World Cup in Soldeu, 6 and 7 March 2027

The Alpine Ski World Cup is now a regular fixture in Andorra, and in March 2027 it returns to the country’s best-known race run, the Avet in Soldeu. If you’re skiing that week, or fancy seeing the world’s best up close, here’s the programme, what the run is like and how I’d plan the weekend.

Dates and races for 2027

The Audi FIS Ski World Cup Andorra 2027 takes place on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 March 2027. There are two technical races on the women’s circuit, the giant slalom on Saturday and the slalom on Sunday, both on the Avet run in Grandvalira’s Soldeu sector. On 10 July 2026 the FIS women’s World Cup race director, Peter Gerdol, inspected the run with the organising committee and approved the start points. Race times haven’t been published yet.

Grandvalira points out that this will be the seventh time the World Cup has come to Andorra, and the fifth on the Avet. To see where the date falls in the winter, the lifts turn from 4 December until 4 April, and the details are in the Andorra ski season guide.

What the Avet run is like

The Avet faces north-east, looking down on Soldeu. Set up for the giant slalom it starts at 2,265 metres and finishes at 1,837, over 1,242 metres with a 428-metre vertical drop, an average gradient of 37% and pitches of up to 65%. The slalom starts lower, at 2,047 metres, over 609 metres and 210 metres of vertical.

What changed it was a skiable walkway opened in the 2018-19 season, connecting the run to the village. It added 14,000 m² of run-out, more grandstands and the facilities a race of this level needs. Andorra and the World Cup, 2012 to now

It’s a short, fast-moving story. The European Cup first came to Soldeu and El Tarter in 2008 and the World Cup made its debut in 2012, on the Avet. In 2016 El Tarter’s Àliga, the speed run, was unveiled. In 2019 Andorra hosted its first season Finals, the year of Marcel Hirscher and Mikaela Shiffrin’s dominance, and in 2023 its second, with nine races and, according to the organisers, more than 6,000 spectators a day. In 2024 there was a women’s World Cup to mark Soldeu’s 60th anniversary, and between late February and 1 March 2026 another women’s event, this time speed races on the Àliga.

Andorra also bid for the 2027 and 2029 World Championships and missed out on both. The organisers frame those bids as a step towards staying on the calendar, and the 2027 return fits that story.

How I’d plan the weekend

Accommodation first. I’d expect Soldeu to be full, so I’d look in Canillo or El Tarter, on the same main road, with free cancellation in case the weather shifts the programme. In 2023 and 2024 the organisers ran free public transport for spectators, but nothing has been announced for 2027. For a British skier the good news is that early March sits nicely between February half-term and Easter, and the rest of Grandvalira’s 215 kilometres stays open while the Avet is closed for racing. You can ski other sectors in the morning on your normal pass and come down for the second run. Mountain weather in March can turn quickly, so I’d check Andorra ski resort weather before heading up. And with the GHIC not valid in Andorra, make sure your winter sports insurance is in place.

Other World Cups in Andorra

This isn’t the only world-level event in the country. Grau Roig’s Riberal run is, according to Grandvalira, the only homologated speed skiing (flying kilometre) track in the Iberian Peninsula, with its own World Cup. The Freeride World Tour has stopped at Ordino Arcalís since 2015, and in February 2026 staged the first FIS Freeride World Championships.
