Hotels in Ordino, Andorra's quiet northern parish

Ordino is the parish I’d send anyone who tells me Andorra is all duty-free shops and crowded pistes. It’s the least populated in the country, counting 5,851 people in August 2026, and the whole valley has been a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2020. Staying here means choosing calm, with a ski resort at the head of the valley and some of Andorra’s finest scenery on the doorstep.

What the council’s list tells you

Unlike most parishes, Ordino council publishes an accommodation list with ratings on its tourism website. The winter version shows nine star-rated hotels. The four-star ones are the Bringué, the Xalet Bringué and the Niunit in El Serrat, and the Mu & Spa in La Cortinada. The three-stars are El Pradet in El Serrat, the Sucarà in La Cortinada, and the Abba Babot, the Santa Bàrbara and the Hotel Ordino in the main village. There are also three hotels with no rating shown, three aparthotels, apartments in Llorts, Arans and La Cortinada, two rural houses and the Borda de Sorteny hut.

In Spanish search data, the Abba Ordino Babot is by far the most looked-up name, followed by the Santa Bàrbara. That both are village three-stars rather than the four-stars up the valley suggests to me that many people see Ordino as a practical base rather than a splurge.

Village, El Serrat or somewhere smaller?

The parish has eight official villages, Ordino, Segudet, Sornàs, Llorts, La Cortinada, El Serrat, Arans and Ansalonga, and each gives a different stay. The main village is the practical option, with the tourist office in the Casa de la Muntanya, the Casa d’Areny-Plandolit manor house, the Miniature Museum and the L6 bus to Andorra la Vella.

El Serrat is the mountain option. It’s the last village up the road, beside the Sorteny Valley Natural Park, and holds three of the four four-star hotels on the list. For skiing Arcalís or walking in Sorteny, that’s exactly where I’d sleep. The village has its own page in El Serrat.

In between, La Cortinada and Llorts are small villages with history. In La Cortinada stands Cal Pal, dated to 1347, and the Romanesque church of Sant Martí. Llorts has the old iron mine at the end of the Iron Route, with around 30 m open to visitors in summer, and the Ordino bridge that was moved there stone by stone in 1980.

Skiing Ordino Arcalís

Andorra Turisme calls Ordino Arcalís one of the resorts with the best snow in the country thanks to its northern aspect, with 30.5 km of pistes and an international reputation for freeride. You reach it on the CG-3, there’s a bus service and free parking, and in 2026-27 the season runs 4 December to 4 April. For motorhomes in winter, the resort opens overnight areas at l’Hortell, with 50 bays, and Planells, with 10. Chains or winter tyres are compulsory in the cold season, which matters on the climb up the valley.

Ordino in summer

This is when the parish is at its best. Sorteny, a natural park of over 1,000 hectares, has a botanical garden and more than 700 plant species, all explained in the Sorteny Valley. From the Coma d’Arcalís, a path climbs to the Tristaina lakes, above 2,300 m. High on Peyreguils, at 2,701 m, the Tristaina solar viewpoint rewards early risers. Every 7 August, just after half past seven in the morning, sunlight shines through a gap in the rock of Arcalís for three minutes.

Beyond the mountains, the parish has a cultural life of its own, which is rarer in a ski valley than you might think. The National Auditorium is in Ordino, and the ONCA orchestra’s season, «Time to listen», runs from 18 September 2026 to 24 April 2027, according to Andorra Turisme.
