Andorra in November, the quiet month before the snow

November is the month fewest people pick for Andorra, and that’s exactly its appeal. The autumn walking is over and the ski season hasn’t started. What’s left is a quiet, cold country with the shops open and hotels in no hurry to fill up. Treated as a long weekend of shopping and switching off, it works nicely, and it’s the month when I’d most happily trade the slopes for a spa, a museum and a long lunch.

November weather

In the valley, November’s 1991-2020 normal drops to 6.3 °C at the FEDA station in Escaldes, the reference I use for every month. That’s five degrees down on October, the steepest drop from one month to the next all year. This is when, according to Andorra Turisme, snow starts to settle on the high mountains, ahead of the big winter falls.

In practice that means frosty mornings in the valley and summits that can wake up white. For a walk I’d stick to valley-floor paths such as the Camí de les Pardines and leave the cols to people with winter mountain experience.

New rules on the road

The 1st is also when chains or winter tyres become a legal requirement, and they stay one until 15 May. That’s more than paperwork. Coming in from France means crossing the Port d’Envalira at 2,408 m, and from Spain you still climb steeply towards the resorts. If you’re picking up a hire car at Barcelona or Toulouse, ask for it to be kitted out, and before setting off check the roads and the live cameras, covered in Andorra road conditions.

What’s open and what isn’t

The big resorts don’t ski in November. Grandvalira, Pal Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís open on 4 December 2026, dates that Grandvalira says depend on the weather. The exception is Naturland at La Rabassa, which opens at weekends on its 1600 level until 22 November and starts the winter season on Saturday 28th, with the 2000 level open daily from 9am to 5pm. At the other end, the long summer finally closes. The Tristaina solar viewpoint and the Llorts mine, weekend-only in October, both shut after 1 November. The zip lines at Tirolina Park near Ordino run, according to Andorra Turisme, until the end of November. Anglers need to be quick too, as the fishing season on Andorra’s rivers and lakes runs from mid-March to mid-November, with a licence that visitors can buy online.

A month for shopping, Caldea and culture

November has no shop closure days. The 1st, All Saints’ Day, is a public holiday but the shops open, and in 2026 it’s a Sunday anyway. Opening hours don’t change, with the later 9pm close on Fridays and Saturdays. Andorra Turisme says many shops join Black Friday and that La Massana’s autumn Vide Dressing, given over to sports kit, is usually held in November, though neither has a published 2026 date. Flying home, bear in mind the UK customs allowances rather than the Spanish ones.

Cold days are Caldea and museum days too, and the valley towns are at their most relaxed, with restaurants and shops open but none of the ski-season queues. Encamp’s National Car Museum is on winter hours from October, and I go through it in Andorra car museum. On the cultural side, the first Andorra Respira Flamenco takes over Ordino’s concert hall at 9pm on Saturday 28th, with a world premiere by the dancer El Yiyo.

Should you buy the season pass now?

If you’ll ski a lot, yes. If you don’t live in Andorra, the season pass is €1,019 when bought on or before 9 December 2026 and €1,433 afterwards, on Grandvalira’s price list. November is the last unhurried chance to do the sums, which I set out in Andorra ski pass. If you’d rather buy in person, Grandvalira Resorts has a stand in the Illa Carlemany shopping centre in Escaldes-Engordany, open from 5 October to 13 December, Monday to Saturday from 10am to 6pm and Sunday from 10am to 2pm.
