Canillo on the valley floor, with terraced meadows, zigzag roads and snowy peaks in the distance

Espai Galobardes is a 300 m² exhibition space on the lower floor of the Canillo gondola building. It holds about 524 pieces by the Girona-born painter Francesc Galobardes, shown in rotation in temporary exhibitions alongside work by other artists. It opens Wednesday to Sunday and standard entry costs €5.50.

I'd see it on the €7.50 pack with the Motorcycle Museum, in the same building. On its own, only if you like painting; together, they sort out a rainy afternoon in Canillo.

Before you go

What I would keep in mind

  1. 01 To save money

    Two museums for €7.50

The pack with Canillo's Motorcycle Museum, in the same building, costs €7.50, against €11 for the two standard tickets separately.

  2. 02 My tip

You never see it all at once

With over 500 paintings and 300 m², Galobardes' works rotate through temporary exhibitions. Come back and you'll see a different selection.

  3. 03 Money

    Free for under-10s

Children under 10 go free, and the €3 reduced rate applies with a Carta Magna, student card or Carnet Jove.

Beneath the Canillo gondola, where in winter everyone tramps past in ski boots, there’s a painting gallery hardly anyone knows about. Espai Galobardes is named after the Girona-born painter Francesc Galobardes and covers 300 m² between its storage and exhibition areas.

A collection that rotates

The collection gathers about 524 pieces by Galobardes, too many to hang at once. So the paintings change and temporary exhibitions run through the year, sometimes of other artists from Andorra or abroad, or of other techniques. The idea is for the space to keep culture moving in the parish, not just to store one body of work. Come back a few months later and you’ll see something different.

Opening hours and price

It opens Wednesday to Saturday, 9.30am to 1.30pm and 3pm to 7pm, and Sunday 10am to 5pm. Standard entry costs €5.50, reduced €3 and under-10s go free. It’s part of the PassMuseu and accessible. The best deal is the €7.50 pack with the Motorcycle Museum, in the same building.

If you would rather have a local show you round, book a guided tour in Espai Galobardes and choose by the reviews.

Is it worth it?

If you like painting, yes, especially when it rains. If not, I’d pair it with the motorcycle museum as a bonus, using the pack. It’s one of the small spaces I cover in Andorra’s museums, and it leaves you a step from Canillo’s old quarter and Sant Serni de Canillo.

Getting there

The gondola building is in the middle of Canillo. Two national bus lines reach the village from the capital, the L3, which ends in Soldeu, and the L4, which carries on to Pas de la Casa, with fares that depend on how many zones you cross. Driving, Canillo has council car parks where the first hour is free and a full day was capped at €20.60 in 2026, according to the Comú.

A car frees you from timetables: search car hire in Andorra la Vella on DiscoverCars and compare companies.

What’s nearby

In the old quarter, Sant Serni de Canillo boasts a 27-metre bell tower and is free to visit. Higher up, on the Montaup road, the Roc del Quer viewpoint pushes a glass walkway out over the void, reached only with your own vehicle.

Who it’s for

For anyone in Canillo on a bad-weather day, or waiting for the children to finish ski school, it’s a calm and inexpensive hour. For anyone after a major art museum, it isn’t, and it’s best to go in knowing the exhibition changes. If figurative painting and landscape appeal, go in; if not, the pack with the motorcycles turns it into a full afternoon. I’d allow around forty minutes if you stop at every canvas, and a bit longer if you add the motorcycle collection in the same building. It’s also a good option in late spring and autumn, when the village is quiet and the slopes are closed, and you want something under cover between walks. Entry is free for under-10s, which makes it an easy choice with young children.

So you do not pay over the odds, look at trains, coaches and flights to Andorra la Vella on Omio and pick the one that suits you.
