Hotels in La Massana, the town for Pal Arinsal

In the northern valley, La Massana plays the role that Encamp and Canillo share in the east. It’s the main town, with services, shops and a life of its own all year, and it’s also the gateway to a ski area. For me it’s the most balanced base for Pal Arinsal if you don’t want to be marooned in a small mountain village.

Skiing without the car

Pal Arinsal has two sectors, Pal and Arinsal, joined by a cable car, with more than 63 km of pistes. Andorra Turisme puts it in a way that settles where to stay. In the centre of La Massana a gondola takes you to the foot of the Pal sector’s slopes, and another leaves the village of Arinsal for its own sector. The resort also runs a free bus to La Massana and offers free parking in each sector.

In hotel terms, that means a room a few minutes’ walk from the gondola. The operator opens Pal Arinsal for winter 2026-27 on 4 December and closes it on 4 April. If you’re staying all winter, or coming back several times, the Nord Pass gives you a full season at Pal Arinsal plus Ordino Arcalís, at €788 for non-residents until 9 December 2026 and €977 after, with up to four days in Grandvalira included.

Why the town and not a smaller village?

With 12,402 residents in the August 2026 count, La Massana sits at 1,240 m. That means shops, restaurants and services that a village like Pal can’t offer. Route L7 of the national bus links it with Andorra la Vella, so an afternoon of shopping or Caldea doesn’t need a car.

As for named hotels, the council’s tourism website, visitlamassana.ad, has listings for several. Hotel Màgic Massana says it’s 100 m from the gondola, and the Marco Polo describes itself as a three-star in the centre. In Sispony there’s Abba Xalet Suites, in L’Aldosa the Residencia Aldosa and in Anyós the Anyós Park aparthotel, plus the KY Mountain Hostel for tighter budgets. It isn’t a complete list and the descriptions are the properties’ own, but it’s an official starting point.

The villages around

According to the council, the parish villages are La Massana, Anyós, Arinsal, Erts, L’Aldosa, Pal and Sispony. With a car and a taste for quiet, the hillside ones have real charm. Sispony keeps Casa Rull, a museum in the house of a wealthy 17th-century farming family. Anyós, above 1,300 m, has the church of Sant Cristòfol. And Pal, above 1,500 m, has had its old core protected by planning rules since 1998.

Staying in one of them gives you views and silence, but you’ll drive for almost everything. On those hillside roads in the snowy months, chains or winter tyres are a legal must.

Summer in the northern valley

When the snow goes, La Massana carries on. The Pal Arinsal Bike Park covers more than 60 km² with 30 summer trails, according to Andorra Turisme. The parish also has the Farga Rossell, an ironworks of 1842 at one end of the Iron Route, about 10 km to the Llorts mine, and the La Massana Còmic museum, free to visit. At the head of the valley, beyond Arinsal, lies the Comapedrosa Natural Park, with Andorra’s highest peak at 2,942 m.

History buffs should look up the Hostal Palanques in the village, which Andorra Turisme links to the resistance networks of the Second World War and to its room number 3. It’s one of those stories that makes a place feel less like a resort and more like somewhere with a past. If the museums tempt you more, start with Casa Rull.

The parish is also a Starlight Reserve and Destination, with stargazing points at the Roc de la Sabina above Arinsal and the Coll de la Botella above Pal, easy to reach at night if you’re staying here.
