Aman Sveti Stefan, sleeping inside the postcard
Aman Sveti Stefan is the hotel occupying the fortified islet of Sveti Stefan and Villa Miločer on the mainland. According to its website, the island opens seasonally, from 1 May to 31 October, with cottages and suites in fifteenth-century stone houses, while the villa is open year-round. Its spa, with an indoor pool, is on the mainland.

- Aman Sveti Stefan occupies the islet of Sveti Stefan and Villa Miločer.
- The island is seasonal, closing on 31 October 2026 and reopening on 1 May 2027.
- Villa Miločer, once Queen Maria's home, is open all year.
- The spa, with an indoor pool, is on the mainland.
If you're going to treat yourself properly in Montenegro, this is it, and I'd book the island in May or September, when the coast can breathe. In winter, Villa Miločer makes sense for anyone after peace and woodland rather than beach.

What I would keep in mind
-
01 Worth the splurge
A suite with a pool on the islet
The Sveti Stefan Suite covers 165 m² over two floors, with a private pool and a sea-view terrace, according to the hotel's website. It's the largest on the island.

02 My tip
The island closes in winter
The hotel's website says the island closes on 31 October 2026 and reopens on 1 May 2027. Outside those dates, only Villa Miločer is open.

04 Getting there
Allow extra time in July and August
The hotel warns that in July and August the coast road and border crossings get busy, so airport transfers can take longer than usual.

What I would book
You pick some hotels for the room and others for where they stand. The Aman Sveti Stefan is the second kind taken to the extreme, because the location is Montenegro’s most famous islet. Here’s what the hotel itself says on its website, the only source I use for its facilities, and what I’d weigh up before booking.
Two places in one
The hotel has two parts. One is the island of Sveti Stefan, a fifteenth-century fortified village joined to the mainland by a narrow isthmus, whose hand-restored stone houses hold cottages and suites, each individually styled and linked by cobbled lanes and courtyards. The other is Villa Miločer, on the mainland across the bay, once the residence of Queen Maria Karađorđević and surrounded on three sides by forests of cedar, pine and olive. The island opens seasonally; the villa opens all year.
The island and its dates
This is the detail that matters most when planning. According to the hotel’s website, the island closes on 31 October 2026 and reopens on 1 May 2027 for the summer season. If your trip falls between those dates, the islet isn’t an option and you’re left with the villa. That’s why I’d go for the island in May, June or September, when the coast isn’t overwhelmed.

Suites and cottages
On the island, the largest is the Sveti Stefan Suite, 165 m² over two floors, with a private pool and a sea-view terrace. Next comes the Adriatic Suite, 155 m², with two bedrooms and three terraces. Then come cottages of various sizes, from a 145 m² one overlooking the Sveti Stefan and Miločer beaches down to 45 to 90 m² cottages modelled on fishermen’s homes, plus 45 to 50 m² Village Rooms. Villa Miločer has sea-view suites, two Queen Marija Suites in a separate building and garden-view suites, and can be booked whole, up to eight suites, for groups of family or friends, with a living room, meeting room and library.
The spa
The Aman Spa is on the mainland, looking out to sea, and offers signature body treatments, a gym, two hydrotherapy suites and an indoor pool. It’s what makes the villa worthwhile outside the summer as well. The hotel’s own travel notes add that cards are widely accepted but some euros in cash help for small purchases, and that English is commonly spoken in the tourist areas.
If you are short on time, see the best tours in Aman Sveti Stefan and pick one that fits your day.
Getting there
The hotel’s website names three airports. Tivat, with seasonal direct links to European cities including London, is the handiest gateway in summer; Podgorica runs year-round; and Dubrovnik has more flights but means crossing a border. The hotel itself warns that in July and August traffic on the coast and at the borders lengthens transfers. I compare them in Montenegro airports. And if you want luxury without the islet, there are more options in the best hotels in Montenegro.
