Tivat beach on the Luštica peninsula
Plavi horizonti, fine sand and pine trees in Pržna Bay
Plavi horizonti is the largest sandy beach in Tivat municipality, in Pržna Bay on the Luštica peninsula, about 30 minutes' drive from town. It takes its name from a hotel that once stood there. The water shelves gently over fine sand and is clear with a greenish tint, and there are sunbeds, showers, changing rooms, sports pitches, parking and a jetty.

- The largest sandy beach in Tivat municipality, in Pržna Bay.
- Gently shelving and all fine sand, ideal for young children.
- About 30 minutes by car from central Tivat.
- Sunbeds, showers, changing rooms, parking and a jetty.
If you're in Montenegro with small children, this is the beach on the bay I'd pick. Fine sand, water that deepens slowly and pine trees for shade. Get there early in August and save the afternoon for Pecka round the corner.

What I would keep in mind
-
01 Most beautiful
Clear, greenish water
The Tivat tourist board describes natural, clear water with a greenish tint, and says many people consider it the most beautiful beach in the municipality.
-
02 My tip
The one for toddlers
The National Tourism Organisation uses it as its example of a family beach in Tivat, with a smooth entry into the water and fine sand all the way.

Pecka, just next door
Velja špilja, which everyone calls Pecka, is a 100 m sandy cove in Trašte Bay that you can drive to from Plavi horizonti.

What I would book
If you land in Tivat wanting proper sand, not pebbles or a concrete sun deck, there’s one name to remember. Plavi horizonti, «blue horizons», is the beach in Pržna Bay on the Tivat side of the Luštica peninsula, and the local tourist board rates it the biggest stretch of sand in the municipality and, in many people’s view, the prettiest. I’d agree on the second point, and I’ve no quarrel with the first.
A beach named after a hotel
The name was borrowed from a hotel. The Tivat tourist board explains that it’s known as Plavi horizonti after the former hotel of that name that stood here. Officially it’s Pržna Bay, next to the village of Radovići, and the Luštica scenic-route leaflet describes Pržno as an inlet of fine sand backed by pines and olive groves, and a long-standing favourite with visitors.
What the beach is like
The National Tourism Organisation holds it up as Tivat’s family beach, and you can see why. The water shelves gently and the bottom is all fine sand, so small children can paddle at the edge without stubbing their toes on rocks. There are sunbeds and umbrellas, sports pitches, changing rooms, showers, parking and a jetty. The Tivat tourist board describes the water as clear with a greenish tint, which gives it a very clean look.
With toddlers in tow, I can’t think of a better beach anywhere on the Bay of Kotor. Travelling without children and after peace and quiet? At midday in August it may not be your spot.

Getting there
It’s about 30 minutes’ drive from central Tivat, across Luštica. OpenStreetMap shows a bus stop named after the beach on the peninsula road, but I found no official timetable for buses out here, so plan on a hire car or a taxi. Arriving by boat is also an option, as the beach has a jetty.
The neighbours, Pecka and Oblatno
Plavi horizonti isn’t alone. A few minutes away, tucked into Trašte Bay, is Velja špilja, which everyone calls Pecka, a 100 m sandy cove of 1,420 m² with a summer beach bar. The National Tourism Organisation says it used to be a wild beach and found fame in a well-known Montenegrin music video. Next door is Oblatno, about 100 m long, with a private section run by Luštica Bay and its Almara beach club. My plan would be the morning at Plavi horizonti, a swim at Pecka after lunch and sunset at Oblatno, which the tourist board recommends for watching the sun go down over the open sea.
If you are short on time, see the best tours in Plavi horizonti beach and pick one that fits your day.
Is it worth the trip?
Yes, especially if you’re staying in Tivat, because this is the beach that makes the drive to Luštica worthwhile. If you’d rather have pebbles and gin-clear water, Žanjic is on the far side of the peninsula, with the Blue Cave a short boat ride away. I compare them all in my guide to Tivat beaches.
