Villa Miločer, the former Karađorđević summer residence, with its pergola, lawn, a tall cypress and the mountains behind

Pržno is a former fishing village on the Budva Riviera, now an upmarket resort, with a 260-metre beach of sand and rock that faces west. Next door is Miločer, the park of the old Karađorđević summer palace, with King's Beach at 280 metres and Queen's Beach at 200. Sveti Stefan is just to the south.

    • Pržno is a former fishing village between Kamenovo and Sveti Stefan.
    • Its 260-metre beach faces west and keeps the sun until sunset.
    • Next door is Miločer, with King's Beach and Queen's Beach.
    • The Budva to Sveti Stefan bus passes every ten minutes.

If I were staying on the Budva Riviera purely for the beaches, it would be here. In the morning I'd go to King's Beach, the most elegant on the coast, and in the afternoon I'd come back to Pržno, which keeps the sun until it sets.

    Before you go

What I would keep in mind

    1. 01 Most beautiful

      King's Beach at Miločer

280 metres of fine sand in front of the former Karađorđević palace, with the park behind. It's named after King Alexander of Yugoslavia.

    2. 02 My tip

      The sunset beach

Pržno beach faces west and gets the sun until sunset, according to the Budva tourist board. It's the best spot on the riviera for the last hours of the day.

    3. 03 Worth the splurge

      Queen Maria's villa

Villa Miločer, once the residence of Queen Maria Karađorđević, is now part of the Aman Sveti Stefan and opens all year.

    4. 04 Getting there

On foot to Kamenovo and Bečići

Kamenovo sits next to Pržno, and from there a seafront path runs on to Bečići and Budva. The town bus passes every ten minutes.

    What I would book

    My ranking, scored

Pržno and Miločer beaches, in my order

My personal order, scored out of 10, for sand, setting and light. Measurements are from the Budva tourist board.

    1. King's Beach

Fine sand and 280 metres in front of Miločer park. The one I'd choose if I could only swim at one beach in Budva.

      9.4 out of 10

    2. Queen's Beach

200 metres in a cove wrapped in greenery at the entrance to the park. It was Queen Maria's favourite.

      8.9 out of 10

    3. Pržno beach

260 metres of sand and rock with restaurants and converted fishermen's houses, and sun until the very last minute.

      8.4 out of 10

    4. Kamenovo

330 metres of sand between Bečići and Pržno, with parking and bars playing music by day.

      7.9 out of 10

Pržno is where the Budva Riviera dresses up without entirely losing its village feel. It was a fishing village and is now a smart resort, with a small beach, houses turned into apartments and restaurants practically on the sand. Right next to it is Miločer, which is, to my mind, the loveliest corner of the whole Budva coast.

    Pržno beach

The Budva tourist board describes a beach of sand with some rock, 260 metres long and 4,300 m², in front of the village. Olive groves sit behind it and, along the shore, upmarket houses with rooms and apartments, several restaurants and the Maestral hotel. Its great virtue is the aspect, because it faces west and keeps the sun to the very end, so it’s the beach I’d return to in the afternoon, after a morning on the busier sand at Bečići or Sveti Stefan. Along the front are restaurants from the official list such as Langust, Blanche and Konoba Zago, which you’ll find in restaurants in Budva.

    Miločer, the royal park

Around the Miločer hotel, built as the summer residence of the Yugoslav Karađorđević dynasty, a garden of exotic trees and flowers grew up over the decades. The tourist board lists Lebanese cedar, eucalyptus, tropical mimosa, Japanese medlar, cactus, agave and pittosporum alongside the local Mediterranean planting. The tourist board’s own history of Budva dates the palace to 1935 and credits it with putting these beaches on the international map. Today the villa, once Queen Maria’s home, is part of the Aman, which I cover under Aman Sveti Stefan.

    The two royal beaches

In front of the park are the two beaches I like most on the riviera. King’s Beach is 280 metres and 7,400 m² of fine sand, named after King Alexander of Yugoslavia, and the tourist board ranks it in the top category for this stretch of the Adriatic. Queen’s Beach is 200 metres in a cove surrounded by greenery at the park entrance, and was Queen Maria’s favourite. I compare them with all the others in beaches in Budva.

    Kamenovo, on the other side

Towards Budva, between Pržno and Bečići, lies Kamenovo, a 330-metre sandy beach backed by Mediterranean scrub and olives, with parking nearby and bars that throw daytime parties in summer. A seafront path links it to Bečići and Budva, so from Pržno you can walk into town without touching the main road. For the after-dark side, see Montenegro nightlife.

    Getting there and staying

Buses on the Budva to Sveti Stefan town line call at Miločer and the village through the day and well into the night, the last around 01:30. The Budva tourist board gives five stars to the Maestral and the small Miločer hotel, and the village, with just 134 residents in the preliminary 2023 census, fills up in summer with houses let as apartments. Just to the south, a short walk away, is Sveti Stefan.
