Liechtenstein's music festivals, from Jovanotti to classical guitar

Liechtenstein, with 41,000 people, has a surprising musical summer. I haven’t found any mass festivals in its calendar, and I rather like that. These are small events in squares and halls in the centre, with international names a few metres from the crowd. Almost everything happens in July and August, so if your trip falls then, it’s worth checking the line-ups before fixing your dates.

VaduzSoundz, the festival on the square

VaduzSoundz describes itself as a small, refined festival in the centre of Vaduz, and it is. It’s staged outdoors on the Museumsplatz, at Städtle 34, right on the museum mile. The 2026 edition, the 15th, ran from 22 to 25 July, with doors at 18:00 and music from 19:30, headlined by the Italian rapper and singer-songwriter Jovanotti and the German DJ Fritz Kalkbrenner, with Swiss acts Stefanie Heinzmann and Lo & Leduc closing on the Saturday. A practical note, umbrellas aren’t allowed on site. The 2027 dates haven’t been announced. The street itself is covered in my guide to the Städtle in Vaduz.

Vaduz Classic, opera in the open air

At the end of August the capital changes key. Vaduz Classic took place from 27 to 29 August 2026 with concerts spread across town. It opened with a night of opera on the town hall square, with soprano Nadine Sierra, tenor Javier Camarena and the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra, and closed with film music by Hans Zimmer and John Williams. In between came cellist Gautier Capuçon at the Vaduzer-Saal, a morning family concert and crossovers with jazz and electronica in the Kunstmuseum café, one with trumpeter Till Brönner. Which festivals are on in 2027?

The two with dates already published fall together in early July. On 2 and 3 July 2027, FL1.LIFE is back in Schaan, with German singer Nico Santos confirmed for the Friday on the LGT stage in the SAL’s main hall; tickets went on sale on 23 September 2026. And LiGiTa, the Liechtenstein guitar days, runs from 3 to 10 July 2027, with masterclasses, concerts and a competition. The programme is announced in November. Music outside the big dates

If your trip doesn’t coincide with a festival, there are other options. The tourist board lists among its main events the «Festival der Stimmen», a spring festival of vocal music, though I couldn’t find published dates. On 15 August, the national day, there’s a street party on the Städtle from midday until 2:00; it has its own page, Liechtenstein’s national day. And through the year the Black Pearl in Schaan has live music on some nights, while the Hotel Residence’s Chapter Two hosts after-work DJ sessions on a few summer Thursdays. None of it is a big concert, but for an ordinary evening in a small country, it does me fine.

Film and the theatre season

It isn’t music, but it’s worth knowing. The Filmfest Liechtenstein returns in August 2027 to the SKINO cinema in Schaan, showing films in their original language with German subtitles, and your ticket gets you free buses across the whole network, night buses included, from two hours before to two hours after the film. Which festival suits which traveller?

If you want a proper night out with big names and don’t mind a crowd on a square, VaduzSoundz is the one, and it’s walkable from every hotel in the capital. For couples and anyone who prefers a seat and an orchestra, Vaduz Classic in late August. Guitarists, or anyone curious about the instrument, will get more from LiGiTa, where masterclasses sit alongside the concerts. And if you’re bringing teenagers, FL1.LIFE’s pop line-up in Schaan is the obvious pick.

Planning the trip

I’d do two things. First, book a bed as soon as the dates are out, because Vaduz has few hotels and August is their busiest month.
