Hotels in Malbun, the handful there are and which I'd choose

Sleeping in Malbun is the best decision you can make if you’re coming for the mountains, but you should know there isn’t much choice. It’s a handful of places, most of them geared to families, and in winter they fill up before the valley hotels do. Here’s which were open in late September 2026, what sets each apart and which I’d plump for.

Few hotels, plenty of demand

The Office of Statistics doesn’t give a hotel count for Malbun, but it does say that in 2025 an average of 4.17 alpine hotels were open, meaning those in Steg and Malbun. And the Triesenberg area, which includes them, logged 51,991 hotel nights, more than Vaduz with 39,461. Few beds and lots of demand means one thing. At Christmas, in the February half-term week and on snowy weekends, book well ahead. Skiers should budget for the lift pass as well, priced in Malbun ski pass.

For families with children

Hotel Turna calls itself a three-star superior for three generations and sits right next to the Sareis chairlift. It has childcare from age two, a spa area with an outdoor hot tub and a restaurant, and its website advertises three-night winter stays from CHF 470 per person. For a family with small children, it’s my first choice while the Gorfion stays shut.

The Gorfion is the valley’s classic family hotel, a four-star superior by the piste that promises 79 hours a week of free childcare from babies upwards. But be careful. In late September 2026 Bergbahnen Malbun listed it as closed for building work, and its website talks of a 2025-2026 rebuild and sells reopening packages from 4 December 2026. I wouldn’t book without written confirmation that it has actually reopened.

The biggest and the smallest

The JUFA Hotel Malbun is the largest, with 58 rooms, and the only one Bergbahnen Malbun lists as open all year. It sits at the head of the valley next to the lifts, has an indoor play area and a spa, welcomes dogs, and its restaurant serves non-residents from 12:00 to 21:00. If you’re coming in November or spring, when others close, it’s your safe bet.

The Galina is the opposite, a small three-star superior with eight single or double rooms, three family rooms and a few simpler ones, self check-in and free parking. What makes it unique is that it’s also a falconry. From May to early October there’s a bird of prey show on its terrace, and guests have it on their doorstep.

Tradition and altitude

Alpenhotel Malbun, run by the Vögeli family, is both hotel and restaurant, and it’s proud of a hundred years of history and hearty alpine cooking. It’s the choice for anyone who likes the old ways.

Then there’s Sareis. The guesthouse up top, at 2,000 metres, is run on an interim basis in 2026 by a cultural association and charges CHF 50 a head for a bed and breakfast until 18 October. It’s simple, with self-service food, but sleeping above the valley and watching the sunrise from the ridge beats any hotel down below. If that appeals, look at the mountain huts too.

Where to eat if you stay up here

There’s no need to drive down. Besides the restaurants at the JUFA, the Turna and the Vögeli, the tourist board lists the Schlucher-Treff in the village, with home cooking and a big terrace, and the Gitzihöll pizzeria, which has a cave-like feel. Käsknöpfle, the national dish, are on the Turna’s menu. In winter the piste bars at Täli and Schneeflucht open as well.

If Malbun is full

The obvious fallback is Triesenberg, on the same bus 21 about a quarter of an hour away and some 800 metres lower. Bergbahnen Malbun lists the Hotel Oberland as a partner, with self check-in, balconies over the Rhine valley and the bus stop out front. From there you can reach Malbun every hour without a car.

And if you travel in a motorhome, the tourist board lists a motorhome pitch in Malbun itself, pitched as a base for outdoor activities. It doesn’t publish prices or the number of spaces, so I’d check with the Malbun Center before driving up.
