The Prince of Monaco's car collection, and where to see supercars for free

Monaco and cars go together in almost everyone’s head, and fair enough. A Grand Prix is run through the streets here and this is where the Prince keeps his collection. The problem is that half of what’s online about that collection is out of date. Here’s where it is today, what it costs and where to see the kind of cars people stop and stare at, with and without a ticket.

The collection has left Fontvieille

For years the Prince’s Car Collection lived on the Fontvieille terraces, and many guides still send you there. In July 2022 it moved into a modern building at Port Hercule, next to the Rainier III swimming stadium, at 54 route de la Piscine. Head up to Fontvieille looking for it and you’ll find something else.

There’s a second muddle over the name. The official domain is mtcc.mc, though the site calls itself the Car Collection of HSH the Prince of Monaco. By contrast, mcarcollection.com isn’t official at all, it’s a scale-model shop in Puertollano, Spain. For tickets I wouldn’t look beyond the official website or the Palace ticket office. What’s inside

There are about 3,500 m² of display space with around a hundred cars. The oldest is a 1903 De Dion Bouton and the newest a 2013 Lotus Formula 1 car. In between are Monte Carlo Rally cars and F1 cars that raced in the Grand Prix. Rainier III started the collection in the late 1950s and Albert II has kept on adding to it.

What I find most interesting is exactly that mix. It isn’t a brand museum telling you one story, it’s the collection of a family that has lived motor sport both from the royal box and from the inside. You can see it in the way road cars, rally cars and circuit cars share the floor. The official website doesn’t give a visit length, and I’d reckon on an hour.

Hours, prices and the combined ticket worth having

It opens 10:00 to 18:00 from 1 September to 30 June, with last entry at 17:00, while in July and August it stays open until 19:00. It closes on 19 November, on 25 December and on Grand Prix weekends, whether Formula 1, the Historic or the E-Prix. That’s the detail I’d check first, because those weekends are exactly when you’d most fancy coming to Monaco with cars in mind, and in 2026 there were three of them, in April, May and June.

Adults pay €15, students €13 and ages 6 to 17 €10, with under-6s free. Tickets are sold online and at the collection’s own desk. If you arrive by train, the Parvis Sainte-Dévote exit from the station is the one that sends you towards the harbour. If you’re also going into the Prince’s Palace of Monaco, the combined ticket gets you both for €25, three less than separately, and it’s valid while the Palace rooms are open in 2026. With the Oceanographic Museum, the combined ticket the museum sells costs €33.

Where can you see supercars on the streets of Monaco?

There’s no official answer to give you here, so I’ll give you my own judgement. If you want to see cars that never drive down your street without paying a thing, I’d sit for a while on Casino Square, between the Casino and the Hôtel de Paris, and let time pass. There’s no schedule and no guarantee, but it’s Monte-Carlo’s natural shop window, and you’ll be on that square anyway if you visit the Monte Carlo Casino.

If you want something certain, you need a date. The 2027 Monte Carlo Rally, the 95th edition, starts on Thursday 21 January at 13:45 from Port Hercule, and on Sunday the 24th the prizes are presented there at 17:00. Formula E in Monaco, the E-Prix, runs on 1 and 2 May 2027 on the full F1 circuit. The Top Marques Monaco show took place from 6 to 10 May 2026 at the Grimaldi Forum and returns from 5 to 9 May 2027. The Grand Prix, if you’re going to spend

If there’s one place I’d spend money on cars in Monaco, it’s the Grand Prix itself. The 2027 race runs from 4 to 6 June, with a Sprint format for the first time. Grandstands cost €40 on Thursday and from €250 on Friday, and on Sunday they range from €800 to €1,150 depending on the stand, with the Casino grandstand among the dearest. The cheapest option for Sunday is the Rock standing area, at €200, with €50 on Friday and €100 on Saturday. And if you’re not here for the race, the circuit is still there. The collection sits inside the layout, around the Swimming Pool section, so when you leave you can carry on walking round the harbour and the other corners, which are ordinary streets the rest of the year.
