Where to stay for the Monaco Grand Prix, from a hairpin balcony to the train from Nice

On Grand Prix weekend Monaco stops being a town and becomes a race circuit with hotels around it. That changes how you choose a bed completely. The star rating matters less than two very specific questions. What will you see from the room, and how will you get in and out when half the city is closed off? Here’s how I’d think it through, using what each hotel publishes and without inventing prices nobody gives.

Hotels with the race in the window

Only three hotels say plainly on their websites that you can see the race from them. The Fairmont Monte Carlo has Hairpin City View rooms with a private terrace over the hairpin, the bend the tourist office calls the “virage du Fairmont”, and a Grand Prix Suite looking over the hairpin, the harbour and the sea. Its site mentions Formula 1 stays, and if you want to watch the cars go by from your own balcony, nothing else compares.

The Port Palace, on avenue J.F. Kennedy, says all 50 of its rooms overlook Port Hercule, the yachts and the circuit, and warns that availability during the race is very limited. The third is the Hôtel Métropole, which doesn’t promise a view from every room but keeps a private lounge for guests to watch the race, serves lunches at Les Ambassadeurs overlooking the descent, and has the Suite Azur facing the track.

Sleeping on Casino Square

The circuit runs past the Casino, according to Visit Monaco, and the Hôtel de Paris stands on the same square. Its website doesn’t sell a room with a track view, so I won’t promise you one. What you do get is the most famous address in the Principality and the free Casino entry the Société des Bains de Mer gives its hotel guests. For me it’s the pick for anyone who treats the Grand Prix as a social occasion as much as a race.

The practical side when half the city is shut

Road closures are what trip visitors up. In 2026, avenue J.F. Kennedy, home to the Port Palace and the Miramar, was closed to traffic on race weekends, and quai Albert Ier, the harbour quay, was shut from February to July for the build. Taxis switch to a Grand Prix fare from Thursday to Monday, €30 within Monaco and €160 to Nice Airport, against €18 on a normal day. If you’re driving, Visit Monaco recommends the Parking des Salines, with a free CAM shuttle when you show your ticket.

That’s why a hotel near the station makes a lot of sense that week, even without a view of the track. The Novotel and the Ambassador are minutes from the platform, and I compare them in cheap hotels in Monaco. Remember as well that the Palace and the Oceanographic Museum shut on the Saturday and Sunday, and the New National Museum across all four race days, so don’t count on them for your spare time.

Is staying in Nice worth it?

It’s what most people do, and on a normal day it works very well, with around 60 trains and a 23-minute ride. My reservation is the Sunday return, when everyone leaves at once. I have no official figures on how services are stepped up that day, so I won’t guess. If you stay in Nice, I’d look near Nice-Ville station and take the journey back slowly. What to book first

The 2027 dates are set, 3 to 6 June, with Formula 1 running Friday to Sunday and a Sprint format for the first time. Tickets go on general sale on 1 October 2026, and Sunday grandstand prices run from €800 to €1,150. Stands and zones are all covered in Monaco Grand Prix tickets.

My advice is to book the hotel before or alongside the ticket, with free cancellation if it’s offered. Nobody publishes how much hotels rise that week and I won’t invent it, but with so few beds in such a small country, waiting rarely pays off.
