La Condamine market, stall by stall and at the right hour

Of anywhere in Monaco, this is where you least feel you’re in Monaco, and I mean that as praise. No yachts, no designer windows, just butchers, a fishmonger, a beekeeper and locals doing their shopping. If you want to understand how the people who never make the magazines actually live, start here. I’ll walk you through the stalls, the best time to go and how to eat well without spending much.

What you’ll find in the kiosks

The town hall sums up the offer as butchers, bakers and charcuterie with local produce and Monegasque and regional specialities, a fishmonger, fruit and veg growers and florists. Its official list of traders puts names to that. There are two butchers, the Chez Rinaldi fish stall, Le Coin du Fromager, Le Petit Charcutier, fresh pasta from Cesano & Fils, honey from a local producer, Denis Morieux, and oysters and seafood at Vidal’Ostra. An organic grocer, a couple of florists and several growers with their own fruit and veg round it off.

The list isn’t dated, so treat it as a map rather than a promise that every stall will be in place on the day. One thing I noticed reading it is that Chez Roger, the socca stall Atout France recommended back in 2022, doesn’t appear. I don’t know whether it has closed or simply isn’t listed, but I wouldn’t go looking for it specially.

What time is best at La Condamine market?

Morning, and the earlier the better. The market opens daily at 07:00, but the growers, producers and florists leave at 12:00, while the shops hold on until 15:30. Turn up at one o’clock and you’ll see half a market. My ideal window is 09:00 to 11:00, with everything set up and before heading up the Rock via the Rampe Major, which starts from this very square.

There’s a contradiction over the hours you should know about. VisitMonaco publishes different times, a market until 13:00 and evening food until 21:30. The town hall, which actually runs the market, gives the times in the table above, and I go with those.

Eating at the market, day and night

The food section is why many visitors end up here. VisitMonaco places barbagiuans, socca and pissaladière there to eat on the hoof, and the town hall’s list adds a rotisserie, pizza, pasta, ready meals and even a Japanese stall. What fewer people know is that the market does supper too, between 18:00 and 23:00 from Tuesday to Saturday, and you don’t book. In a country where a sit-down dinner costs what it costs, that strikes me as the best evening option on a normal budget. The square doubles as a party venue. In 2026 the Bal du Marché fell on 12 September, with guinguette dancing and free entry. And on 19 November, National Day, the market lays on a tasting of Monegasque specialities between 09:00 and 14:00, and the giant stockfish appears at noon. A market under renovation until 2027

The hall interior has been closed since 15 January 2026 for a 13-month rebuild. The town hall put up matching kiosks on Place d’Armes, with sheltered areas and aisles wide enough for wheelchair users, and promised the same hours, traders and produce. The new market is due in early 2027, with no exact day.

There was one interruption worth knowing about if you’re coming for a race. From 26 May 2026 the stalls decamped to the Espace Léo Ferré while the square served Formula 1 fans, and later came back. For the 2027 Grand Prix I’d check where it is before going.

If it’s not on your way, two other markets

The town hall runs two more. In Monte-Carlo, the Avenue Saint-Charles market opens every day, with stalls from 07:00 to 19:00 and growers and florists from 07:00 to 13:00. And on the Rock, on Fridays from 08:00 to 13:00, a single fruit and veg grower sets up on Allée Saint Jean-Paul II, by the cathedral. Neither has La Condamine’s buzz, but if you’re staying in or near the La Condamine district, this is your market.

One last thing. The market delivers shopping free of charge, but only to private residents of Monaco. If you’re in a hotel, you’ll be carrying your own bags.
