Hotel Ambassador Monaco, a 3-star at the foot of the Rock

The Ambassador is one of those hotels that never appear in photos of Monaco and yet make the trip work for a lot of people. It’s a 3-star on avenue Prince Pierre in La Condamine, right where the harbour district starts climbing towards the Rock. No pool, no spa, no postcard view. What it has matters more to me in a place this expensive, breakfast included, the station next door and the Palace one hill away.

A 3-star in the right spot

Its website signs off with three asterisks, “Hotel Ambassador Monaco***”, which puts it level with the Novotel and the Columbus. The only thing below it inside the Principality that I’ve confirmed is the 2-star Hôtel de France. What I find most interesting is the address. At 10 avenue Prince Pierre you’re a short stroll from the Place d’Armes market and, by the hotel’s own account, a few metres from Monaco-Monte-Carlo station.

It’s built for sleeping and heading out. Reception is staffed 24 hours, rooms are soundproofed and air-conditioned, and there’s a small meeting room for ten. What life in the district is like, market included, is in my La Condamine guide.

How big are the Ambassador’s rooms?

Small, and it’s best to know that beforehand. The Standard is 14 m² for one or two, with a double bed or twin beds. The Classic goes up to 20 m² with the same layouts. The site also mentions junior suites but doesn’t give details. All rooms have a bath or shower, a minibar, a safe, TV and Wi-Fi. The air conditioning can only be adjusted in the room during summer, something the website itself points out.

If I could, I’d ask for the Classic. With two suitcases open in 14 m² things get tight, and six extra metres change the stay. For a single night passing through, the Standard does the job.

Breakfast included, and what a night costs

This is the part I like most. The hotel says the buffet breakfast is included in the price, served 07:00 to 10:00 on weekdays and 07:30 to 10:30 on Saturday and Sunday. In Monaco that’s real money saved every morning.

On price, I’ll tread carefully. On 25 September 2026 the site listed the Standard from €150 and the Classic from €190, and it has a rate with free cancellation up to 24 hours before arrival. The trouble is that the same booking engine shows offers that don’t add up, like a 15% discount starting ‘from €900’. So I’d treat that €150 as a rough guide and always check my own dates. A pizzeria downstairs and clear house rules

In the same building is P&P, a pop art pizzeria with more than thirty pizzas and pasta dishes, and a dough made from five flours. It opens Monday to Saturday, 12:00 to 14:30 and 19:00 to 22:30. For an easy dinner after a day of hills, it’s a handy fallback.

The rules are spelt out plainly, and worth reading. Check-in from 14:00 and check-out by 11:00, ID required on arrival, under-18s with an adult, no smoking anywhere in the building, and visitors don’t get past reception without leaving a copy of their ID. Pets are welcome for a €15 cleaning charge, as long as you mention them when booking.

Getting there and parking

It’s one of the best-connected hotels in Monaco. The station is a few metres away, airport coaches from Nice stop about 50 metres off, and if you arrive by helicopter there’s a free shuttle from the heliport. I’d come by train, and the options from the airport are in getting from Nice to Monaco.

Driving, there’s no hotel car park. The Ambassador has a deal with the public Parking de la Colle opposite at a special rate, but spaces can’t be reserved. During big events I wouldn’t count on one.

Who I’d book the Ambassador for

Anyone who’s come to see Monaco on foot and wants to sleep inside the Principality without paying palace prices. From here you walk up the Rock to watch the Palace guard change at midday, drop down to the harbour and eat at the market without catching anything. It also suits anyone arriving and leaving by train.
