Going to the Monte Carlo Masters, the Monaco tournament played in France

Almost everyone in Britain who types in the Monte Carlo Masters wants a score, a draw or an order of play. This page is about something else, going in person. And the first thing I want to clear up surprises a lot of people, which is that the Monte Carlo tennis tournament isn’t played in Monaco at all.

Where is the Monte Carlo Masters played?

At the Monte-Carlo Country Club, 155 avenue Princesse Grace, postcode 06190, Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. That’s France. The club sits right against the border, about 150 metres from Monaco’s north-eastern edge according to Wikipedia, and as there’s no border control between the two countries, you cross without noticing. The ATP itself writes «Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, Monaco» in its reports, which is wrong, and goes some way to explaining why the mix-up is so widespread.

To me this is more than trivia, because it has practical consequences. A Monaco taxi takes you there on a fare for leaving the Principality, your phone may behave differently either side of the line, and if you look for a hotel right by the courts, you’re looking in France. The 2027 dates, and when to buy

The 2027 tournament runs from Saturday 3 to Sunday 11 April. The 2026 edition was from 5 to 12 April, with qualifying on the 4th and 5th, on clay, the surface it has always used.

Two sale dates are worth noting. Anyone who bought in 2026 gets a presale from Thursday 1 October 2026 at 09:00 French time, which is 08:00 in the UK, and the general public can buy from Thursday 15 October at 09:00. There are also multi-day passes, the Opening Pass, the Final 8, the Final 4 and the nine-day pass, sold by advance booking only and until 31 January 2027. The tournament answers on +377 97 98 70 00 and by email, and I’d only ever buy on its official website.

What a ticket costs, and which days I’d choose

The 2027 prices come in two PDFs, one for the tournament box office and one for advance booking. At the gate, Centre Court, the Court Rainier III, goes from €50 on Saturday 3 April in third category to €490 on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 in the top category. The Court des Princes starts at €40. Booked ahead, Centre Court starts at €45 on that first Saturday, but each order adds a €10 fee.

I’ll do the maths because this is where people slip up. With one ticket, the €5 you save by booking becomes €5 more once the order fee lands. With two or more tickets on the same order, or several days, advance booking does pay off, and you’re sure of a seat. The figures in between are set out in columns that are hard to read, and I couldn’t check the children’s rate, so for specific days I’d go straight to the official table.

If it were me, I’d go on the first weekend. It’s the cheapest time on Centre Court and the draw is full of matches. I’d leave the final weekend to the real enthusiasts, because at €490 for a top-category seat you need to be very sure.

How do you get to the Country Club from Monaco?

Walking is the way I like best. The club is at 155 avenue Princesse Grace, the same road as the Grimaldi Forum, around 150 metres from the border. If you’d rather not walk, lines 1 and 4 of Monaco’s town bus end at La Rousse-Saint-Roman, and a journey costs €1.50 by card or €2 in cash to the driver. In 2026 the government included the tournament among the major events with free town buses, with the bus company announcing which days, so 2027 needs confirming nearer the time. Monaco taxis work on fixed fares. Under the table that came into force in September 2026, central Roquebrune is €25. The catch is the way back, because the tourist office says a Monaco taxi is ordered from inside Monaco, and gives Beausoleil and Cap-d’Ail as places you can’t book one from. I wouldn’t rely on a taxi to get back from the club.

Fitting the tennis into the trip

April in Monaco averages highs of 16.7 °C and, with October, is one of the rainier months, so I’d pack a layer for long hours in the stands. And since you’re in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin anyway, the medieval village up the hill, with its castle, is one of the outings I recommend in day trips from Monaco. To my mind it’s the natural companion to a day of tennis, because it’s close at hand and changes the whole feel of the day.
